ABOUT MASTER MICHAEL WHITE

Master Michael White

Michael White took his first lesson in Korean TaeKwonDo in 1982 at age 12, after taking a beating by three bullies on a school bus. His first teachers were Michael Totten and Don Smith of Master In Mook Kim. This instruction gave Mike a love for martial arts that has lasted throughout his life. In 1987, he began instruction with Grand Master In Shik Kim, his lifelong mentor, and joined the WTF and WTU. Mr. White, then became interested in Japanese martial arts and received a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate for Self Defense from Master Takashi Kosugi and founded the Wayne State College Karate Club in 1990. Mike taught courses in self-defense, women's assault prevention, and traditional Asian martial arts. He remained head of instruction at Wayne State College until his graduation in 1992.
Due to the interest in the Martial Arts of Mrs. White, Mike returned to his study of Korean TaeKwonDo with Master In Shik Kim after college. Also at that time, he studied Japanese Shito-Ryu Karate under Masamichi Kishiku. He has since studied Judo recreationally with both John Tureau and Scott Tucker of the late Sensei Frankie Williams. He has been featured in both Martial Arts World and TaeKwonDo times magazines as well.
